KABUL (SW) – At least seventy percent of hostilities in Afghanistan are linked to land disputes, officials told a moot here on Thursday.
Sayad Ahmadi, director at the Ministry of Urban Development and Land said at a conference in Kabul that some 18000 land-grabbers have been identified so far. He added the disputes over land can broadly be divided in three types namely argument among two or more individuals, disagreement among person or persons and the state and the third one is dispute among different state institutions.
The director at the Ministry of Urban Development and Land further said when these disputes are not peacefully resolved in a proper way, it often leads to violence.
A latest study by the Afghanistan Institute of Strategic Studies identified land-grabbing by powerful individuals, government officials and religious figures as one of the reasons for growing inequality, migration among other social evils.
