KABUL (SW) – Up to sixty per cent fuel stations in the capital, Kabul do not meet minimum standards of safety, the joint fire prevention committee said in a fresh report.
Mohammed Qassim Haidari, deputy minister at the National Disasters Management Authority, told a news conference in Kabul that a survey with the joint fire prevention committee has proved that up to sixty per cent fuel stations in Kabul are not up to the mark. He said the remaining 40 percent of the fuel stations in Kabul only meet the relative minimal of standards in this connection.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahtab Alami, deputy director at the Kabul Municipal, said new petrol pumps have only been issued with licenses under the approval of the council of cabinet ministers.
The joint fire prevention committee warned petrol pump owners they would be referred to the Attorney General’s office if they failed to comply with the safety rules and regulations. The joint committee consists of 10 governmental and non-governmental organizations.
