KANDAHAR (SW): General Abdul Raziq, Kandahar police chief, at a press conference in Kandahar said that 60 senior Taliban commanders and members of the Quetta Council have agreed to join the government under the peace process.
About a month ago, President Ghani at the 2nd Kabul peace process announced a peace deal for the Taliban to join the government and said that the Taliban could form a political party after joining the peace process.
Though, the High Peace Council has not yet said anything in this regard.
Gen. Raziq also informed that there will be a number of Taliban candidates in the parliamentary and provincial council elections. Gen. Raziq also accused Russia and Iran of interfering in Afghanistan’s affairs and have been trying to halt the peace process in Afghanistan.
The joining of the Quetta Council members to the peace process will have a positive impact on the security of the country and on the other hand, other Taliban commanders will also be encouraged to join the peace process, Gen. Raziq added.
According to Gen. Raziq, members of the Quetta Council have agreed to join the peace process with the efforts of tribal elders and foreigners (presumably the US and international community).
Meanwhile, Taliban’s spokesperson, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi rejected this news in a conversation with Salam Watandar.
Attempts to bring Taliban on the peace talks have not only been taken by the government, nonetheless, the residents of Helmand, Kabul, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Zabul, Kunduz and Balkh have been rallying and embarking on sit-in camps lately, demanding the warring parties to join the peace process.
