JALALABAD (SW): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) handed over a newly established water canal to the local officials in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday that would help irrigate up to 5000 acres of land.
The canal has been built in the province’s Behsud district at a cost of afn 1.5 million provided by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Naseer Ahmad Durrani, the minister for the Rural Rehabilitation and Development said that the canal would boost agriculture in Behsud district.
Durrani added that the canal is protected by retaining walls that would save it from floods.
He further said that the retaining walls would also reduce the flood threat posed to the Kunar-Nangarhar highway.
