BADGHES (SW) – At least 500 security forces are under the siege of the Taliban in Bala Murghab district of Badghes province, an official said on Saturday.
Abdul Aziz Baik, chairman of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar that these security forces including soldiers and officers of the army are under the siege by the Taliban in the Sherkat area of the restive district. He added the security personnel are faced with shortage of food and resources.
The provincial council chairman further said at least 10 civilians including women and children got killed in an air raid by the security forces aimed at rescuing the stranded soldiers. He warned a human catastrophy would emerge if swift actions are not taken to push back the insurgents.
Meanwhile, the provincial governor, Abdul Ghafoor Malakzay, has rejected these reports. He, however, confirmed the killing of six civilians in an air raid.
Bala Murghab is among the most restive districts in Badghes that has twice briefly fell to the Taliban.
