BAMYAN (SW): Members of the Bamyan Provincial Council on Saturday claimed up to 50 per cent of women in the province are deprived of identity cards.
Addressing a presser, the PC members said if the government failed to provide identity cards to the deserving people within time, they would miss the chance of casting votes in the forthcoming elections.
Mohammad Hussain Assadi, one of the PC members, said the voters’ registration process is a limited opportunity, but women living in remote areas are unable to register themselves due to the impediments.
Abdul Ahad Benawa, another PC member from the remote Koh Mard district, said up to 90 per cent of women and girls there lack the identity cards. The PC members said only those women and girls have obtained identity cards who are educated or plan to travel abroad.
