MAIDAN CITY (SW): Afghan National Army (ANA) has claimed to have eliminated at least 50 militants in central Miadan Wardak proince on Thursday.
General Abdul Raziq Safi, ANA Brigade Commander told journalists the district has been cleared from the armed Taliban.
Safi added more than 30 insurgents have been wounded in the operation. He confirmed the death of two ANA soldiers in the fighting.
Earlier in July, more than hundred militants stormed Jalrez and encircled Afghan Local Police (ALP) men. Some 24 local policemen were reportedly ambushed in the attack. The incident was widely condemned as some quarters blamed additional troops for not coming for ALP’s rescue.
Promising a thorough investigation into the incident, Hayatullah Hayat, the provincial governor vowed to swiftly take back control of the security posts taken by the militants. He urged media outlets not to fuel tribal, religious and political differences through their reports in regard to the Jalrez incident.
Today (16 July), Hayat said the commission, which was established by the President to examine and investigate Jalriz’s incident, had completed its investigation.
He added that the investigations of fact-finding commission indicate that lack of coordination between security forces and lack of local’s cooperation with the soldiers, who had come from Bamiyan to Maidan Wardak, could have been the reason behind the incident.
