50-meter long letter to the UN to make efforts for peace

MEHTARLAM (SW): Hundreds of young sportsmen from Laghman province have signed a 50-meter long letter to the UN to make efforts for peace in Afghanistan, and end the bloodshed.

These sportsmen gathered in the sports gymnasium on Sunday and underlined the need for peace in the country.

Hekmatyar, one of these sportsmen, told Salam Watandar that the objective behind this unique way of highlighting the need for peace is to urge the UN to play a more proactive role towards realizing the dream of peace in Afghanistan. Khalid, another sportsman, said that this is not an isolated endeavor of few sportsmen, but it reflects the desire of many people, and it would help highlight the need for peace on the national level.

Faizanullah Patan, director information and culture, said on the occasion that the letter would be deliver to the UN office in Afghanistan. He added the youth’s efforts for peace would continue and the government would support it.

Participants of this campaign also urged upon the armed rebels to shun violence, and join peace process.

The letter has been handed over to the Laghman governor Abdul Jabar Naeemi to finally hand it over to the UN office in Kabul.
