KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) on Sunday inked contracts with various private firms for some 48 developmental projects in various parts of the country.

These contracts were for the construction of bridges, cultural centers, concrete streets, boundary walls, and canals in 21 provinces. According to the MRRD authorities, implementation of these projects would provide job opportunities to more than 30 thousand countrymen.

Akbar Rustami, spokesman for the MoRRD, told journalists in Kabul these contracts are worth 413 million afghanis, and would be implemented in 21 provinces of the country. “Despite insecurity in the country, we managed to implement 11 thousand development projects in the provinces this year alone”, added Rustami.

The latest string of projects is funded by the Asian Development Bank, the Government of India while part of it is funded by the MoRRD itself. According to the MoRRD, empowerment of women in rural parts of the country is a priority, and so far job opportunities for 68 thousand women have been created by the Ministry.
