MAIMANA (SW) – Well-placed sources informed Salam Watandar a company of the Afghan National Army with some 350 soldiers is under the siege of the Taliban in Faryab province.
The source informed the company was on its way to Maimana city from the Ghormach district when the rebels took it under siege in the Qaisaar district. The source informed heavy clashes are underway between the two sides as the rebels have blocked the main highway with big gravels.
At least ten soldiers are reported killed.
Meanwhile, the ANA’s 209-Shaheen Corps, has noted 24 rebels have been killed and an armored vehicle snatched by the rebels destroyed in air raid.
This comes as officials in Faryab announced on Sunday the security forces would vacate positions on the Herat – Maimana highway in Ghormach district in 24 hours.
