334 more schools to be built in Herat

HERAT (SW) – Foundation stones have been laid for 334 new schools worth AFN 1.3 billion in Herat province.

Abdul Qayum Rahimi, governor of Herat, said on the occasion these schools would be completed in two years. He added the government is determined to develop up to six thousand new schools across the country. The governor said funds worth AFN 90 million have been received for the development of 29 schools, and funds for the rest of schools would be made available soon.

In the meantime, Agha Mohammad Siddiqui, head of the directorate of rural rehabilitation and development in Heart, said the new schools would be built in remote parts of different districts in the province. He said 19 schools would be built in Karkh, Zindajaan, Fersi, Pashtun Zarghon Oba and Kohshan districts.

He added sketches have been finalized for 100 more schools, and there is no hurdle in developing schools in restive parts either.

Ruhullah Zahid, head of the directorate of education, told the gathering there are some 1100 public schools in Herat, but half of them are without a proper building. He expressed optimism the development of these 334 schools would help improve the system of education in the province.

The provincial governor vowed the government would not stop building schools in the wake of the rebels’ continues threats.
