320 drug smugglers nabbed in four months

KABUL (SW): More than 320 people have been arrested on the charges of drug smuggling in the first four months of the current year, the Counter Narcotics Justice Center (CNJC) stated on Tuesday.

In comparison to the Center’s previous report, the drug trade has swollen by 5% compared to the first four months of the previous year.

Baz Mohammad Hussainkhail, the CNJC head said on the occasion that they have confiscated 3 tons of heroin, half a ton of morphine, 11 tons of opium and 21 tons of hashish, chemical materials, and 1000 liters of alcohol.

“We have unearthed 310 cases with the help of Counter-Narcotics Police in the capital Kabul and other provinces”, he said.  He added that CNJC has registered 36 cases in Kandahar, 23 in Helmand and 20 cases in Nangarhar provinces.

According to the CNJC head, 32 security officers, 8 women and two Iranian nationals were among those who were arrested in connection with drug smuggling.

Hussainkhail mentioned an Afghan National Army (ANA) General from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in Baghlan province was involved in trafficking drugs from Badakhshan province and was arrested.

“Those who try to slow down or create problems in our investigations, we will bring them to justice and arrest them no matter how high-ranking they are”, he vowed.

Hussainkhail said that during the operations they confiscated 204 guns, 73 illegal vehicles, 158 mobile phones, afg 16 million cash, over $ 26000, more than 7 million Pakistani rupees, 5 million Iranian currency and 100000 Indian rupees.

According to Hussain Kheyl, those who are involved in smuggling would be sentenced 10 to 20 years in prison.
