NANGARHAR (SW) – The security forces claimed to have killed 30 Taliban rebels, including a commander of their so-called ‘red unit’ in Nangarhar province.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, said the operation was conducted by the special forces of the NDS in the Khogyani district of the province last night. He said among the 30 rebels killed included Mukhabat, commander of their so-called ‘red unit’.
He said the security forces or the civilians have sustained no losses.
A well-placed source in the NDS has confirmed the killing of this militant commander along with 30 rebels.
A resident of the Khogyani district, Irfan, has confirmed there was a security operation in the area last night, but he could not confirm casualty figures.
Meanwhile, the Taliban have issued a statement claiming three of their fighters and 16 security forces got killed in this incident. It asserted the Taliban fighters in Khogyani were stationed there to fight the pro-Daesh militants in the area.
