MAIMANA (SW): Up to six security check posts and three villages in Faryab province have been surrendered by the local uprising militia to the Taliban, officials said on Saturday.
Abdul Raziq Kakar, governor for the Garziwan district in Faryab, informed Salam Watandar that the Taliban have influence over the local uprising militia that has surrendered the check posts without any resistance. He informed these check posts are located in the strategically important Gul Tapa area.
The district governor added that following this move the Afghan Border Police (ABP) men as well as the Afghan National Police (ANP) men went away from the Tagab Shan, Gawki and Jar Kala areas on strategic retreat leaving three villages and five more check posts to the Taliban. He further said that the security forces have went at least three kilometers away from the district center.
A well-informed source that wished not to be named informed Salam Watandar that the Taliban have also confiscated small arms from the security forces. Local officials have said the militants are engaged in intense clashes with the security forces close to the district center.
The Taliban have not commented on this so far.
