ASSADABAD (SW) – A well-placed security source told Salam Watandar that at least 29 mortars were fired from Pakistan on Kunar province on Sunday.

The source not wanting to disclose identity said the mortars hit Sheltan district, Chugam district and other mountainous parts of the province. Though, no one was injured in these attacks, but they terrorized the population, according to the source.

Police spokesman Yusuf Mazloomyar did not comment on the exact number of mortars fired by the Pakistani military, but added that the rockets hit mountainous parts of Sheltan district.

Pakistani security forces fired several rockets at parts of Assadabad, the capital of Kunar province, and the districts of Sarkano and Marwara on Wednesday, killing eight civilians and wounding 11 others.

Pakistani officials have not yet commented on the latest shelling.

After the Pakistani military fired rockets at parts of Kunar province, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the attacks and urging Pakistan to refrain from such actions.

Last week, acting foreign minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar said in the interests of both countries a security meeting would be held to stop Pakistan's strikes on the Afghan territory.
