KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission’s regional office has noted that violence against women has increased by 21.8 percent in comparison to the previous year.
AIHRC’s regional office in Kabul, which also covers Kapisa, Panjshir, Logar, Maidan Wardak, and Ghazni provinces, in its recent report on the violence against women has said that violence against women has increased in 2017 in comparison to 2016.
In this report, AIHRC has established that there have been 699 cases of violence against women in 2016 which has increased to 895 in 2017, and most of these acts of violence have been physical, verbal, psychological and economic.
Economic problems, drug addiction, poor security situation, outdated traditions, corruption, weak rule of law and lack of awareness are among the causes of violence identified by the AIHRC in its recent report.
In another part of this report, AIHRC mentioned that another matter of concern for the Human Rights Commission is the increase in the domestic violence. It noted in most such cases the victims have been tortured by their male members of the family and also by their close relatives.
The AIHRC has been concerned that given this situation, women are not even protected even in their homes.
