KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock’s officials have signed a contract for 10 thousand metric tons of improved seed worth 6 million dollars with the National Seed Board which will be distributed to 200 thousand farmers in 34 provinces of the country.
Assadullah Zamir, the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, at a press conference here in Kabul on Monday, said in 13 years it is the first time that improved seeds are given to the farmers. According to him, with the implementation of this project, 400 thousand acres of land will be cultivated and more than 10 thousand people will have jobs.
He further added that those farmers who previously did not have access to improved seeds will now be able to have them and use of improved seeds will increase 25 to 30 per cent of wheat harvests.
