2 million refugees returned home in three years

KABUL (SW): In connections with the International Migrants Day, Afghan officials said up to 2 million refugees have returned home during the past three years.

Syed Hussain Aalimi Balkhi, Minister for Refugees and Repatriates (MoRR), told a moot on this occasion here today that this year alone  up to 528,000 Afghan refugees have returned home. The Minister noted a total of 754 Afghans, whose asylum requests were rejected, have been deported from Europe.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Unity Government (NUG), said there are plans in place to facilitate the refugees with a fund of $ 400 million.

According to the MoRR officials, the country witnessed the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) surge to 1.5 million in three years. Out of them, up to 500,000 managed to return to their homes. Officials said the EU has promised to provide euro 124 million to address the issue of refugees.
