KABUL/ MAIMANA (SW): Security forces have eliminated 189 armed rebels during past 48 hours following clean-up operations across the country, the Ministry of Defense said on Saturday.
Gen. Dawlat Waziri, Depurty spokesman for the MoD told journalist in Kabul that the rebels were killed in Faryab, Takhar, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Helamand, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Logar, Paktia and Kabul.
“During the past 48 hours 189 rebels have been killed that include a top commander and three shadow district chief, there were nine foreign rebels among the dead”, Waziri said.
13 army personnel lost lives during this period, he added.
Sidique Siddiqui, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on the occasion that the forces were advancing in Faryab’s restive Alamr district.
“Following the killing of militant commander Salahuddin, the rebels have sustained a heavy loss in Faryab”, he said.
Abdul Satar Barez, acting governor of Faryaab told SW that over past 24 hours, 18 armed militants were killed in Qarayee village, Almar district in aerial operation launched by the army.
Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum has arrived in Faryab to boost morale of the forces, officials said.
