KABUL (SW): The Population Registration Department has expressed readiness to expedite the issuance of up to ten million identity cards across the country.
Ruhullah Ahmadzai, spokesman for the PRD, told journalists in Kabul on Sunday up to one million identity cards have been issued nationwide, and new identity card issuing offices, including mobile units for nomads, would further improve the reach.
He added security institutions have been requested to provide proper security to these offices. The PRD spokesman said up to 18 such centers would be established in the capital Kabul alone.
He said those wishing to acquire the identity cards should have his or her application attested by street councilor or a public sector employee. Similar is the case for all sorts of complaints in this regard.
About the new biometric identity cards, the PRD spokesman said the roll-out process would gain momentum, and would continue for up to five years. He added a center for these new identity cards would be set-up in the capital next week, and later it would be extended to provinces.
