MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW): New development projects worth up to $ 18 million as part of the Citizens Charter program have been launched in Balkh province.

Jawed Rehmani, director for the program in the province, informed that the development projects would be completed in Balkh, Marmal, Kholam and Chaharkunt districts. Local officials claim the projects would be implemented in areas where the citizens are faced with shortages of clean drinking water, proper roads and lack of jobs.

Syed Abrar, a resident of Kholam, said on the occasion that only 50 per cent of drinking water is available in this district while water for agriculture remains scarce. He also underlined the need for solar electricity and health centers. Qayoom Qayoomi, a resident of Balkh, highlighted this district does not have electricity besides facing the persistent issues of shortages of water and proper roads.

The Citizen’s Charter program that has replaced the National Solidarity Program is aimed at ensuring development, utilizing local talent and creating jobs at the rural level.
