HERAT CITY (SW) – According to health officials in Herat province, an estimated 1748 individuals opted to commit suicide in this province in the past one year.
Arif Jalali, head of the Herat Regional Public Hospital, said out of these individuals, some 27 lost their lives. He said a phenomenal 80 per cent of the people opting to end their lives were women. Head of the public hospital said consuming poison, self-immolation and hanging remained some of the ways practiced by these individuals.
One of the survivors, an 18-year-old woman told Salam Watandar she wished to end her life due to forced marriage.
