KABUL (SW): 16 years ago, on this very day (9/11), the World Trade Towers collapsed as a result of 2 air-crafts targeting the twin towers, which eventually led the United States to attack Afghanistan and Iraq, and a new chapter for the Middle East was opened.
With the arrival of Americans, Afghanistan became the owner of a government and democratic institutions, and a huge wave of financial aid came to the country, but the people's basic demand for establishing lasting peace and security has not yet been met.
Experts believe that after 16 years of the 9/11 attacks, Afghanistan continues to suffer from growing insecurity, increasing terrorist groups, and lack of coordination between Afghan security forces and international forces. According to these experts, during this period, Afghanistan has not only seen any lasting peace and stability, but with each passing day, the crisis of war and insecurity is becoming more complicated.
Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, a military analyst, said the presence of international community and troops in Afghanistan, the state-building has been a major achievement, but there are still serious challenges in the security area. According to him, Afghanistan and the United States must have similar knowledge of the enemy and coordinate at operational, tactical and strategic levels in the fight against terrorism.
But, Atiqullah Amarkhail, another military expert, considering the presence of U.S. and international community in Afghanistan futile said the presence of Americans in Afghanistan has surged terrorism. He added there is still no coordination between the Afghan security forces and the international forces, and foreign forces are arbitrarily conducting military operations which lead to civilian causalities.
But both experts believed that U.S.’s new strategy for the Afghanistan and South Asia is a good opportunity to act seriously in the fight against terrorism and isolation of Pakistan.
On September 11, 16 years ago, 19 Al-Qaeda members, attacked on American soil. The complex attack left 2977 deaths and injured more than 6 thousand people.
