HERAT CITY (SW): The first wind and solar power plant worth 3.7 million dollars in the industrial city of Herat launched by the Minister of Energy and Water, director of DABS and some local officials. The Plant will provide electricity to over 15 thousand families.
Ali Ahmad Osmani, the Minister of Energy and Water, on the launch ceremony said the wind and solar power plant in Herat is one of the biggest power plants in the country which constructed by Japan on 40 acres of land. According to him, the Plant can produce 2 megawatts of electricity. He also informed that after 2 months the construction of another solar project with 5 megawatts capacity will begin in Shindand district of the province.
The Minister of Energy and Water considering the solar power projects as a short-term alternative to imported electricity from neighboring countries, said they will launch several other solar power projects in different provinces in the next few months.
Amanullah Ghalib, the director of DABS, said on the occasion the project will save 4 hundred thousand dollars from importing electricity.
Some of the members of provincial council and resident of Herat welcoming the project urged the Ministry of Energy and Water to launch such projects in other provinces as well.
