KABUL (SW) – At least 14 soldiers were killed in a Taliban-claimed suicide car bombing in northern Balkh province on Thursday, sources said on.
The defense ministry said in a statement that the insurgents blew-up a car packed with explosives near an Afghan National Army base in the Balkh province at around 04:30 a.m. (1200 midnight). It confirmed six soldiers were killed and three others wounded in this early-morning assault.
However, local sources said the number of soldiers killed in the incident reached to 14.
Claiming responsibility for the deadly assault, the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, tweeted that the base was completely overrun in this attack. He vowed 14 soldiers were killed and two armored vehicles were destroyed in the attack.
Earlier this week, Taliban killed seven soldiers and injured six others in the Dawlat Abad district of the province.
