KABUL (SW) – The Independent Human Rights Commission said on Saturday 14 civilians and 22 security forces got killed in the Reduction in Violence week.

The reduction in violence week was observed by the warring parties from Feb. 22 till Feb. 28. The AIHRC said the Taliban staged armed attacks, abductions and roadside blasts in 16 out of the total of 34 provinces in the country.

The AIHRC has also confirmed killing of five Taliban insurgents in the reduction of violence week.

In spite of such a notable death toll, the AIHRC has dubbed it as remarkably lower figure of casualties comparing to the week earlier when 78 civilians casualties, including 27 deaths and 51 injured were reported. ‘When compared, the figures show a 28 percent decrease in violence compared to the week before the ‘reduction in violence week’ was announced’, the AIHRC said in the report.
