KABUL (SW): Charging the Ministry of Education for not paying enough attention toward bad state of schools in the capital Kabul, a number of civil activists fear that as many as 13 schools are about to be close down in the city.
Speaking at a press conference, the activists asked the Ministry of Education to ensure these schools are not closed. They said that thousands of students are enrolled in these schools and in case the schools get shut, the students will be deprived of education.
Muhammad Arif Haidari, an activist, said on the occasion that a while ago, the Directorate of Education asked the Ministry of Education to pay afn 6 million as ‘unpaid rent’ for these school buildings. In response, the Ministry of Education replied that it has no budget for it.
Haidari added that if the Ministry of Education did not address the issue these 13 schools will be closed down.
On the other hand, Muhammad Akabar Haqmal, the head to Publication Department at the Ministry of Education told Salam Watandar that the Ministry of Education has paid the rent of every single rented school in Kabul. He added that rent of the schools goes through a long-process and the legal process of payment should be allowed to proceed.
