KABUL(SW): Speaking at the 5th national conference of community development councils on village level in Kabul, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that despite huge investment in the past 14 years, there still remained areas without irrigation and cultivation in the country.
The President said that natural resources have not been properly managed in Afghanistan and that was why people live in poverty.
“120,000 hectares of lands will be irrigated in the next four years”. He promised.
He further said that the Government of National Unity has decided to turn the National Solidarity Program into a community treaty, which would continue for years to come.
The Presidet added that the government is considering to deliver similar services to all rural communities in the country.
Asadullah Zamir, Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said that a special agriculture based program with all facilities would be provided to the farmers in all rural councils.
Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, said that implementation of these programs required people’s support. He asked people to cooperate with the security forces to ensure security in the country.
Ghulam Jailani Popal, Director General of the Independent Directorate Local Governance (IDLG) asked the leaders of GNU to consider local governance as their priority. He said that there were 35,000 rural development councils active in all rural areas in Afghanistan.
