TALEQAN (SW): Dr. Hafizullah Safi, Public Health Director in northern province Takhar, said that at least 120 schoolgirls at Khanqa Girl School in Rustaq district were poisoned on Wednesday. He said that the poisoned students were immediately evacuated to the hospital.
He told Salam Watandar that the doctors at the hospital have yet to diagnose the reason behind such poisoning but did say that stress and anxiety could have been the reason for it. He added that the poisoned students and teachers were in an open space who did not even touch any poisoned substances.
Gen. Noor Mohammad Hakimi, Takhar Police Chief, said that since the students were studying in an open space under the trees, they were poisoned by the spray used on the trees.
Nearly two weeks ago, similar incident took place which poisoned at least 50 students at Sar Rustaq High School in the same district in Takhar.
Hafizullah Safi said that similar incident occurred three years ago when hundreds of schoolgirls were poisoned at various schools in the province which puzzled doctors to diagnose the reason behind the poisonings which finally security forces captured a few perpetrators with the poisonous substances.
