LASHKARGAH (SW): The Afghan and allied forces have liberated some 101 captives from the Taliban captivity in southern Helmand province.
Umar Zwakd, spokesman for the provincial governor told Salam Watandar that the raids were conducted in Marja district last night. Five Taliban militants have been reportedly killed in this operation. He added that the operation was conducted by the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s Special Forces that came from Kandahar province and took the liberated men with them.
“The operation was planned in Kandahar, now the security forces are confirming to note how many of the captives are security men and how many are civilians”, he said, adding that no collateral damage occurred in this operation.
The Taliban have not commented on this development so far. Prior to this, the security forces have also liberated me from the Taliban captivity in Nauzad, Nahr-e-Siraj and Naad-e-Ali districts.
